Locust Control Experts from Saudi Arabia Visit Algeria

A delegation from Saudi Arabia’s National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) has recently visited the headquarters of the Desert Locust Control Authority in Western Algeria (CLCPRO).

The Saudi delegation was led by Engineer Mohamed bin Hussein Al-Shamrani, the Director General of the General Department for Desert Locust Control.

During the visit, Algeria praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s active role in combating desert locusts, stressing the need for cooperation between the two entities to serve their member states.

The experts sought to learn about the latest innovations and techniques for locust control in the region.

They also aimed to gain insights into the programs and projects implemented by the CLCPRO and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation and coordination between the two organizations through their member states.

The visit reflects the ongoing collaborative efforts between Algeria and Saudi Arabia to combat the threat of desert lo
custs, which can pose a risk to agriculture and food security across North Africa and the Middle East. The two countries are working together to strengthen their shared capabilities in monitoring, forecasting, and responding to locust infestations in the region.
