UNICEF: Gaza’s Children Paying the Heaviest Price’ Due to Israeli Aggression

Amman, United Nation’s Children Fund (UNICEF) Regional Director Salim Oweis said that more than 4,600 children have been martyred so far in the Gaza Strip, noting that “Children ‘paying the heaviest price” as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the besieged Strip since Oct. 7.

Oweis added that hospitals housing children are being subjected to Israeli bombing, especially since we have begun to witness cases of severe dehydration among children in the Gaza Strip.

He explained that 50% of children needed psychological care before the current aggression, based on previous Israeli attacks, indicating that the immediate solution is to keep children away from psychological trauma by stopping the war.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor revealed that its estimates show that the number of Palestinian children victims of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip until Nov. 11 reached half a million children, including martyrs, wounded, and those whose homes were destroyed or damaged.

On the same day, UNICEF warned that the lives of one million children in the Gaza Strip were on the brink of collapse and that health services for children were on the verge of collapse in light of the intense Israeli air, artillery, and naval aggression against all parts of the Strip since Oct. 7.

UNICEF affirmed in a statement that the almost complete collapse of medical and health care services throughout the Gaza Strip, especially the northern regions, threatens the life of every child in the Strip.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Nov. 8 that about 300,000 children in Gaza are deprived of education due to the war waged by the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip.

On Tuesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank since Oct. 7 had risen to 11,451 martyrs and about 31,700 wounded, indicating that it is facing, for the third day in a row, challenges in updating casualty figures due to the collapse of service and communications in hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Ministry said in its daily report that the number of martyrs in the Gaza Strip reached 11,255 martyrs as of Monday evening, including 4,630 children, 3,130 women, and 682 elderly people, while the number of casualties reached about 29,000, adding that more than 3,250 civilians are still missing or under the rubble, including 1,700 children.
