Qatar High Education Institutions to mark International Day of University Sport

DOHA –  A group of Universities, colleges and high education institutions in Qatar  are ready to celebrate the International Day of University Sport   (IDUS) on September 20 ,  2022 , that by organizing a series of sport, physical and entertainment activities at their headquarters under the Umbrella of Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF).

By celebrating IDUS on Tuesday, the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) will begin a debut activity on road to develop the sport and physical activities inside the higher education institutions in a way that will  keep everyone opened-minded to build better sport culture and exercise sports day in day out.

This IDUS is  a key official sport event approved in agenda of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) and adopted by the  International University Sports Federation (FISU) , that with purpose of creating links between universities and local communities to develop both health and sport for everyone.

This IDUS coincides in most countries around the world with the beginning of the academic year , therefore  has been proclaimed and approved by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) to be celebrated annually on September 20, because it is also the date of the first Student World Championships kicked off in 1924.

FISU will spare no effort to ensure that all national university sport federations under it membership are at the heart of the IDUS events, to promote its sports events but also to create a debate on university sport and to promote FISU values.

IDUS presents an opportunity to share knowledge on key issues relating to the development of sport and the University Sports Movement worldwide, and to improve awareness of the importance of sport in educational institutions.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed visits Israel’s Technion University

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today visited the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology- the oldest university in the State of Israel and one of the world’s top educational institutions in the field of science and technology.

The UAE Top Diplomat toured the university and was briefed on its various departments and educational system, which is mainly focused on promoting innovation and knowledge-based economy concepts among young generations.

Sheikh Abdullah learned about the university’s advanced research institutes and centers and technical labs that contribute to supplying the labor market with qualified cadres to drive sustainable development and prosperity.

“The UAE and the State of Israel are significantly collaborating across the educational, research and technical sectors, and there are promising opportunities to enhance and develop this cooperation, and align it with the two countries’ efforts to achieve economic prosperity and sustainable growth,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

He pointed out that the Technion is a leading global model for promoting increased interest in education and scientific research, being engines for economic growth, noting that this prestigious university boasts a prestigious track record of achievements and contributions to the developmental drive in Israel by providing the labor market with competent cadres that are qualified according to the highest international standards.

Sheikh Abdullah was accompanied during the visit by Ahmed bin Ali Mohammed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, Omar Ghobash, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Cultural Affairs and Public Diplomacy, and Mohammed Mahmoud Al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to Israel.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed meets Knesset member

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Moshe Gafni, Member of the Knesset, as part of the UAE top diplomat’s current official visit to the State of Israel.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Abraham Accords Peace Agreement, signed in 2020.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the continuing growth in the cooperation relations between the two countries, hailing the Knesset’s initiative to form a parliamentary friendship committee with the UAE.

For his part, Gafni welcomed the visit of Sheikh Abdullah and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of such a historic visit in strengthening cooperation channels between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Mohammed Mahmoud Al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to Israel.
