H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has met with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries to achieve their common interests. They also exchanged views regional and international developments.

The two diplomats reviewed a number of issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.

Sheikh Abdullah underscored the importance of strengthening international cooperation to consolidate the pillars of stability and peace in the region and achieve the aspirations of its peoples for further development and prosperity.

The meeting was attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; and Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations.

On the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, participated in a ministerial-level meeting that brought together the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, and the United States.

In his remarks, Al Marar underscored the UAE’s support for diplomacy, partnerships, and constructive dialogue to reduce regional tensions and progress towards security and peace. “Conflict, unilateralism, and confrontation impede finding solutions. The UAE has played a prominent role in these priorities as it encourages conflict resolution and the development of the international system to combat terrorism and confront emerging challenges, as well as promote the full, equal, and meaningful participation of women in conflict resolution and peace processes, especially during our membership in the UN Security Council.”

Concerning regional developments, Al Marar underscored the importance of prioritising diplomatic solutions, dialogue, and de-escalation to reduce tensions and prevent the outbreak of new conflicts. Moreover, He stressed that recent initiatives in the Middle East are a prime example of countries’ efforts to reject differences, abandon ineffective approaches, and build new partnerships in various fields such as health, education, and industry in order to achieve growth and prosperity.

Furthermore, Al Marar underscored that the UAE aims to garner all possible support to maintain global peace and stability. He also expressed hope that the talks on the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action would lead to a solution that could be accepted by regional actors.
