BJA Chairman hails royal support to press and journalists

The achievements and progress of Bahraini journalists will once again be celebrated next Sunday, May 7, on Bahrain Press Day.

The day was declared by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in recognition of the role and contributions of journalism to the kingdom’s comprehensive development process.

Isa Al Shaiji, Bahrain Journalist Association (BJA) Chairman, expressed gratitude to HM the King for his continuous support for journalism in Bahrain and directives to issue an advanced press law.

Al Shaiji said the support of His Majesty has paved the way for Bahraini journalists to work without restraints on expression or freedom.

Al Shaiji also conveyed the appreciation of journalists in Bahrain to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for HRH’s constant interest in the topics covered by local press, out of HRH’s unwavering keenness to ensure that the press plays its role with freedom and responsibility .

The BJA Chairman also thanked HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for supporting local press in overcoming many challenges they have faced lately, which consolidates its role as a partner in the development process, led by HM the King.

Journalism, everywhere in the world, is facing challenges that require joint action and unified efforts, Al Shaiji said.

He called for speeding up the process of issuing the new press law, expressing thanks to Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the Information Minister, and the Council of Representatives for their cooperation in this regard.

Al Shaiji congratulated journalists in Bahrain, and thanked them for their dedication and outstanding efforts.

Bahrain Press Day is celebrated shortly after the World Press Freedom Day, internationally celebrated on May 3 every year.
