Delegation from Hong Kong Government Reviews Developments in Saudi Commercial Arbitration


Riyadh: The Riyadh-based Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) has received an official delegation from the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The delegation, headed by the region’s Secretary for Justice Paul Lam, included several senior officials from the Hong Kong government and representatives of the legal and business communities.

During the meeting, SCCA CEO Dr. Hamed Merah discussed potential areas of cooperation between the two sides with the secretary for justice. Center officials delivered a presentation on the latest developments in the arbitration industry in Saudi Arabia and highlighted SCCA’s recent achievements in this field. The presentation also included an introduction to the center’s services for resolving commercial disputes, which cater to the needs of businesses across various sectors and align with the best international practices.

The CEO then accompanied the visiting delegation on an introductory tour of the center’s facilities, showcasing the state-o
f-the-art technical and administrative equipment available for managing arbitration and mediation cases and conducting hearings.

The meeting underscores the center’s leading position in the Middle East and North Africa, its influence in international arbitration, and its role in representing Saudi Arabia in the field of arbitration. It also highlights the country’s growing reputation as a safe and attractive hub for commercial arbitration, contributing to the growth of business activities and attracting international and local investments.

The meeting was attended by several officials, representatives from international law firms, arbitration centers, and legal organizations operating in Hong Kong, including Director-General of Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) Alpha Lau, Director-General of Economic and Trade Office Damian Lee, Deputy Executive Director of the Trade Development Council Dr. Patrick Lau, President of the Law Society C. M. Chan, and Chairman of the Bar Association Victor Dawes S.C.
