HH Shaikh Khalid: Interest in school sports essential for developing sports in Bahrain

First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, attended the first Schools Sports Forum, organised by the Bahrain Universities and Schools Sports Federation at the Bahrain Bayan School today.

Deputy Chairman of the General Sports Authority, HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Cabinet Affairs Undersecretary and BOC Vice-President, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Education Minister, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Jumaa, Information Minister, Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al-Noaimi, Youth Affairs Minister, Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, GSA’s CEO, Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, BOC Secretary-General, Fares Mustafa Al-Kooheji, Bahrain Bayan School Board of Trustees Chairperson, Dr. Shaikha Mai Al-Otaibi, and Bahrain Universities and Schools Sports Federation President, Dr. Shaikh Saqr bin Salman Al Khalifa, attended the meeting.

On the occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid praised holding the first Schools Sports Forum, which brings together sports students under one roof because of its positive role in developing the school sports process, strengthening ties among Bahraini schools’ affiliates, exchanging expertise and experiences, and contributing to the advancement of school sports.

HH Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the future of Bahraini sports and its development begin with interest in school sports, through discovering talents and developing them, organising tournaments and courses to refine them, and conducting continuous tests to select the best elements according to correct scientific bases.

This can also be achieved through reviewing the best experiences in this regard and activating joint programmes with the Ministry of Education to enhance the outputs school sports, HH added.

HH Shaikh Khalid asserted that Bahrain’s keenness to host the 2024 International School Sports Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade and to organise this forum reflects its continuous endeavours to enhance the outputs of school sports as the basic nucleus for achieving the desired development of the sports movement.

During the meeting, the goals of the forum were highlighted, a briefing on the 2024 ISF Gymnasiade was presented and a draft of the school sports strategy was reviewed.
