Intense Participation by Municipalities in Qatar Sustainability Week

Municipalities are proceeding with the events of Qatar Sustainability Week 2021 to raise the awareness of all society segments, especially school students, on the importance of sustainability. These events target planting trees/ plants and adopting practices for supporting preservation of environment and public health of the society.

Al Wakrah Municipality has continued to participate in Qatar Sustainability Week events. Ms. Zainab Al-Shamari delivered a lecture on Health and Food Safety in Vision Private School. Mrs. Sheikha Al-Mahmoud, a Sustainability Team member, distributed Sustainability Pledge to Al Wakra Health Center.

As part of engaging the private sector in the sustainability transition in Al Wakra, Management and consultancy Excellence (Qatar) Limited, part of the Mace group, participated in cleaning up Al-Wakra Family Beach. In this regard, Mr. Mohammed Al-Shawi, Secretary of the Director of the Municipality, explained that the participation is necessary to promote the private sector role in transitioning to sustainability, and would also add value to the Municipality portfolio in UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

Al Daayen Municipality organized a competition for Municipality employees’ children to raise their awareness of definition and importance of sustainability and to engage the children in this objective. This aims to achieve QNV 2030. The participants engaged interactively in this competition, which will last till the end of the current week as the Municipality received several projects. At the end of the competition, five winners will be selected and celebrated by the Director of Al Daayen Municipality.

As part of its participation in Qatar Sustainability Week, Al Sheehaniya Municipality organized an event with Al Sheehaniya Boys School. It aimed to announce the students that Al Sheehaniya Municipality was awarded the membership of UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. Furthermore, a lecture was delivered on the importance of agriculture and plants in the State of Qatar as well as the importance of sustainability and its objectives. The students further participated in planting seedlings in the school to encourage them to plant trees.

Moreovre, Gharsa Initiative cooperated with the Public Parks Department of Doha Municipality to organize an event entitled ?Our Green Homes? to celebrate Qatar Sustainability Week 2021 in Qatar Green Park
