Yesterday morning (Monday), at the headquarters of the Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs Sector, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment organized an awareness lecture for the Ministry?s employees. The lecture entitled ?Importance of Food in Islam? was presented by Sheikh Yahya Butti Al Nuaimi, as part of the activities of ?Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World?. The lecture discussed the concept of hunger and food security and the Islamic approach in achieving food security and famine and its causes. Sheikh Al- Nuaimi explained the virtue of hunger, as it leads to purity of the soul, righteousness and reward. He cited the noble verse ?My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits?. He also said that giving zakat, charities, fasting, prayer for rain, volunteering, penances, urging people to promote solidarity and equality will eliminate famine. At the end of the lecture, Al- Nuaimi praised the MME?s role in achieving food security and promoting agricultural and fish stock.
