Mal Lawal, the unique platform that celebrates the art of collecting, has launched an open call inviting gaming enthusiasts and collectors to be part of its upcoming edition set to open this December at the National Museum of Qatar.

Mal Lawal (in English: From the old times) is a biannual exhibition that invites local, regional, and international collectors to exhibit their collections. Everyone from prolific to amateur collectors who are interested in displaying their objects and sharing their stories with the public are invited to participate. Held under the patronage of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM), Mal Lawal aims to showcase the local heritage and offer insight into the lives of private collectors, collections, and the practice of collecting.

This years edition of Mal Lawal will take the audience on a trip down memory lane to gaming in the 90s, an era that was characterized by an evolution in graphics and exponential growth in the gaming sphere that saw a rise in the popularity of home game consoles. The exhibition will look at how local and resident collectors, through their collections, keep memories of an exciting and crucial time in gaming alive.

Mal Lawal 4 is the only event of its kind in the region and acts as a platform that brings together private collectors and supports and further establishes the practice of collecting in Qatar. The collections that will be showcased in 2023 will present the personal stories of locals and residents based in Qatar and highlight their passion for gaming.

Participants wishing to be part of Mal Lawal 4 are welcome to email a photograph of their object such as Sega Genesis, Sakhr Computer, Nintendo consoles and any games to MalLawalTeam@qm.org.qa (email subject: Mal Lawal 4 open call) alongside contact information and background on the object by May 4th 2023.
