Doha: In their Wednesday editorials, Qatari newspapers shed light on several topics, most notably the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in the 142nd IOC Session held in Paris, praising Qatar’s prominent position in the global sports arena, achieved through hosting major events, developing comprehensive sports infrastructure, and achieving successes in various sports competitions.

The newspapers also noted Qatar’s role in securing the Paris 2024 Olympics set to commence next Friday, by deploying specialized security units, logistical teams, and various task forces to handle diverse responsibilities.

Additionally, the newspapers emphasized Qatar’s leadership in providing humanitarian and developmental aid, continuously extending generous contributions and tireless efforts to support development and relief in brotherly and friendly countries. Qatar aids the people of developing and disaster-stricken nations, as well as areas aff
ected by wars and natural disasters.

Al-Sharq newspaper stated that the participation of HH the Amir in the 142nd IOC Session, under the chairmanship of HE President of the IOC Dr. Thomas Bach, along with the Executive Committee members, IOC members, heads of international federations, and national Olympic committees, underscored the great importance His Highness and Qatar place on sports.

The newspaper added that HH the Amir’s participation in the IOC session coincides with Qatar security’s participation in Paris 2024 through specialized security units and logistical teams handling diverse tasks like foot patrols, drone use, bomb disposal, vehicle monitoring, first aid, and search and rescue operations.

Al-Sharq highlighted that Qatar has strengthened its position on the global sports stage by organizing major events, developing comprehensive sports infrastructure, and achieving success in various sports competitions. Qatar follows an effective sports strategy that includes hosting a variety of events, ac
tivities, and major tournaments, notably hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first in an Arab country, as well as hosting the AFC Asian Cup for the third time, among other global events in various sports.

Al-Sharq concluded that HH the Amir’s dedication to sports and his support of Qatar’s ambitious vision, as reflected in the state’s Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030, has elevated Qatar’s status as a global sports hub, earning widespread international respect.

Al-Watan newspaper stated that with Qatar’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics, it strives for new achievements in various sports. Fourteen Qatari athletes are participating in five different sports, aiming to deliver top-notch performances and results in the world’s biggest sporting event.

The newspaper pointed out that Qatari athletics has the most significant presence, with eight athletes, led by world champion Mutaz Barshim, who won a silver medal at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics and a gold m
edal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Barshim aims to retain his Olympic gold in what might be his last participation.

Before the Qatari security force’s departure to Paris, HE Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani addressed the participants urging them to utilize all their capabilities and the expertise gained over the years to ensure the successful security of the event.

In conclusion, Al-Watan mentioned that Qatar Museums is organizing a rich and diverse cultural program in Paris, starting Wednesday, that includes two exhibitions and the announcement of the first translation of the book “Selected Texts” by Pierre de Coubertin, the French historian considered by many as the founder of the modern Olympic Games, meaning that Qatar will be present on all fronts at the world’s biggest event.
